International food prices are slowly decreasing
On 1 August the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations reported that in July the price index of the most important produce sold in international trade had been 1.1 percent lower than in June – but it was still 2.3 percent higher than in July 2018. Cereal crops became 2.7 cheaper, but their price remained 4.1 percent higher than in last July. The price of rice didn’t change – this trend prevailed in the last five months. Vegetable oils cost 0.8 percent more in July. Meat’s price was up 0.6 percent. Dairy products’ price index dropped almost 3 percent. The FAO sugar price index ended July 0.6 percent lower than the previous month. //
