”To the bin with food waste” – the Nébih No Leftovers program announces a poster design competition
On the occasion of the Sustainability Theme Week, the program of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) is launching a poster design contest entitled “To the bin with food waste”. During the competition, which runs from April 25 to June 21, they are looking for works that illustrate the problem of food waste in an attention-grabbing way, emphasizing the individual responsibility of consumers. The creators of the most interesting works will be awarded with valuable prizes, and their works will be displayed in educational institutions across the country from the next academic year.
About 8% of total global greenhouse gas emissions come from food waste. As a result, food waste is one of the most pressing sustainability problems that needs to be solved, causing environmental and economic damage, among other things. According to the latest research results of Nébih, households in Hungary produce an average of 60 kg of food waste per person over the course of a year, 40% of which could be avoided with a more careful attitude.
With the poster design contest “To the bin with food waste”, the Without Leftovers program aims to draw the attention of even more young people to food waste, which is a social and sustainability challenge at the same time. The call for poster designs is expected to present the phenomenon of food waste and its consequences in a comprehensible, visual or even humorous way, as well as to emphasize the role of consumers in prevention. The competition gives applicants the opportunity to illustrate their thoughts on food waste in a creative way and to inspire others to consume more consciously with their messages.
