KSH: industrial production stagnated in March
In March 2025, the volume of industrial production remained at the same level as the same month of the previous year, while adjusted for working day effects, it fell by 5.4 percent from a year earlier, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) confirmed on Wednesday, based on its second estimate.
The significant difference compared to the raw data is caused by the fact that there were two more working days in this month than in March 2024.
Production decreased in most of the manufacturing sub-sectors, most significantly in the manufacture of electrical equipment. Based on seasonally and working day-adjusted data, industrial output was 0.1 percent higher than in February 2025.
The volume of industrial exports was 3.3 percent higher than a year earlier. The export of vehicle manufacturing, which represents 33 percent of manufacturing export sales, increased by 3.5 percent, and the production of computer, electronic and optical products, which has a weight of 14 percent, increased by 14.0 percent.
Domestic sales of industry were 3.5 percent lower, while those of manufacturing were 3.8 percent lower compared to the same month of the previous year.
The production of the manufacturing industry, which represents the dominant (95 percent) weight within industry, increased by 0.2 percent, that of the energy industry (electricity, gas, steam supply, air conditioning) by 5.0 percent, while that of mining, which has a small weight, decreased by 10.8 percent – the Central Statistical Office announced.
The volume of vehicle production, which has the largest weight and represents 28 percent of manufacturing industry production, increased by 2.8 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. The production of road vehicles increased by 1.3 percent, and the production of road vehicle components by 1.2 percent.
The production of computer, electronic and optical products, which accounts for 11 percent of manufacturing industry production – the most of all sub-sectors – exceeded the level of March 2024 by 15.6 percent. Looking at the two largest sub-sectors, the production of computers and peripheral units expanded by 50 percent, while the production of electronic components and circuit boards decreased by 1.2 percent.
