KSH: industrial production fell by 5.4 percent in November compared to the same period of the previous year and by 2.0 percent compared to the previous month
In November 2025, the volume of industrial production fell by 5.4 percent compared to a year earlier. The index adjusted for working day effects is the same as the unadjusted one, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) confirmed in its second estimate on Thursday.
A decline occurred in the vast majority of manufacturing sub-sectors, the report added.
Based on seasonally and working day adjusted data, industrial output was 2.0 percent lower than in October 2025.
In November last year, the volume of industrial exports was 5.5 percent lower than a year earlier. The export of vehicle manufacturing, which represents 28 percent of the manufacturing industry’s export sales, fell by 9.4 percent, while the production of computer, electronic and optical products, which accounts for 18 percent, expanded by 16.6 percent.
The domestic sales of industry were 8.0 percent lower, and those of manufacturing were 6.6 percent lower than in the same month of the previous year.
The production of the manufacturing industry, which represents the dominant (94 percent) weight within industry, decreased by 5.7 percent, that of mining, which has a small weight, decreased by 11.8 percent, and that of the energy industry (electricity, gas, steam supply, air conditioning) by 2.1 percent.
The Central Statistical Office highlighted that the volume of vehicle production, which has the largest share and represents 25 percent of manufacturing production, decreased by 4.7 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. The production of road vehicles decreased by 1.9 percent, and the production of road vehicle components by 9.2 percent.
The production of computer, electronic and optical products, which represents 13 percent of manufacturing production, exceeded the level of November 2024 by 7.0 percent. Looking at the two largest sub-sectors, the production of computers and peripheral units expanded by 62 percent, while the production of electronic components and circuit boards fell by 33 percent.
The production of electrical equipment, which accounts for 9.4 percent of manufacturing, fell by 10.7 percent from a year earlier. Of the two most significant sub-sectors, the volume of battery and dry cell production fell by 7.2 percent, and that of electric motors, generators, distribution and control devices fell by 16.0 percent.
The production of food, beverages and tobacco products, which accounts for 14 percent of the manufacturing industry, increased by 1.7 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, while domestic and foreign sales decreased slightly. The production of meat processing, preservation and meat products, which represents the largest share (24 percent), increased by 5.4 percent. Production also expanded in six sub-sectors, by between 4.5 and 18 percent, most in the production of animal feed, and least in the processing and preservation of fruit and vegetables. In the other four sub-sectors, output decreased by between 0.3 and 17.9 percent, the strongest in the production of vegetable and animal oils, the Central Statistical Office reported.
As detailed, of the two medium-weight sub-sectors, the production of rubber, plastic and non-metallic mineral products decreased by 10.3 percent, and the production of basic metal and metal processing products decreased by 2.6 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.
In contrast to the previous month’s growth, the production of machinery and equipment, which represents 5.1 percent of the manufacturing industry, fell by 16.0 percent, and three of the five sub-sectors of the sub-sector – which together represent a weight of 91 percent – saw a decrease. be.
Of the sub-sectors, light coke production and crude oil processing fell the most, by 36 percent, from a year earlier, with sales falling significantly in both sales directions – the report showed.
The Central Statistical Office pointed out that industrial production increased in Central Transdanubia (by 9.0 percent) and the Northern Great Plain (by 6.1 percent). In the other regions, volume decreases between 4.3 and 18.0 percent were recorded, with the largest decrease in Northern Hungary.
The volume of all new orders in the monitored manufacturing sectors decreased by 3.7 percent compared to November 2024. New domestic orders decreased by 1.6 percent, and new export orders by 4.0 percent.
