KSH: huge decline in tourism and hospitality in 2020 due to the pandemic
The pandemic caused by the coronavirus and the related restrictive measures caused a significant decline in almost all segments of Hungarian tourism and hospitality in 2020, as a result of which the gross value added of accommodation and catering decreased by 32 percent, compared to the previous year – according to the Situation on the Tourism and Hospitality Sector 2020 publication of the Central Statistical Office.
The years-long growth in the turnover of commercial accommodation establishments stopped in 2020: 5.4 million guests used the services of domestic accommodation establishments for 14 million nights, which is a decrease of 58 and 57 percent, respectively, compared to 2019. (MTI)
