KSH: the increase in agricultural purchase prices slowed down in March
In March, the increase in agricultural producer prices slowed by 21.9 percentage points: purchase prices were on average 5.1 percent higher than a year earlier, compared to the 27.0 percent increase in February, according to data from the Central Statistics Office (KSH).
The price of plant growing and horticultural products was on average 7.1 percent lower than in March last year, which shows a 23.6 percentage point slowdown compared to the 16.5 percent rise in prices in February. The annual increase in the purchase price of live animals and livestock products was also 37.3 percent in March, but this was also a 17.3 percentage point smaller increase than the 54.6 percent in February.
Among vegetable and horticultural products, with the exception of potatoes and vegetables, purchase prices fell below the level of last March in all groups
The purchase price of cereals is on average 6.5 percent lower than last March, the purchase price of fruits was 1.5 percent lower, and the purchase price of industrial crops was 31.5 percent lower. This is a decrease of 28.8 percentage points, 21.0 percentage points, and 24.9 percentage points, respectively, compared to the February price level. The purchase price of wheat was 17.3 percent lower than in March last year, and that of corn was 1.8 percent lower this year. Among industrial crops, sunflower and rapeseed are 36.7 and 40.2 percent cheaper, respectively, than in March last year, while the purchase price of tobacco is also 8.0 percent higher than a year earlier, as in February, according to the KSH. The price of vegetables is 30.0 and that of potatoes 43.7 percent higher than in March last year, but this is also a moderate annual increase of 0.2 and 13.6 percentage points, respectively, compared to February. The purchase price of tomatoes was 22.0 percent, cucumbers 31.1 percent, cauliflower 22.5 percent, carrots 24.3 percent, cabbage 17.4 percent, and lettuce 16.8 percent higher than last March.
The average purchase price of live animals and animal products increased
Based on the new data, it exceeds last March by 38.0 and 36.0 percent, but this is also a significant slowdown of 17.6 and 16.7 percentage points, respectively, compared to the annual price increase in February, the data shows. The annual increase in the purchase price of slaughter pigs decreased from 79.7 percent in February to 36.3 percent in March, slaughter cattle are 21.5 percent more expensive than their price in March last year, the increase slowed by 2.0 percentage points. The rise in poultry prices slowed down by an average of 4.5 percentage points to 43.5 percent, the purchase price of milk rose by 38.3 percent in one year to March, which is 17.4 percentage points less than the increase in February, the price of eggs in March was 66.3 percent higher than last year , but in February it was still 95.4 percent more expensive.
In the first quarter, agricultural purchase prices were on average 17.8 percent higher compared to the same period last year, while the annual rate of price increase was 33.9 percent.
