KSH: the increase in agricultural producer prices continued to accelerate in July
In July, the producer price of agricultural products was on average 50.7 percent higher than a year earlier, the rate of increase accelerated by 2.4 percentage points after June’s 2.9 percentage points – according to the latest data published on Monday on the website of the KSH.
The price of live animals and animal products increased by an average of 45.6 percent in one year, the increase in the price of live animals increased by 5.4 percentage points to 48.5 percent, that of animal products accelerated by 8.2 percentage points to 39.9 percent, in which the price of milk played a major role with the fact that its annual price increase jumped by 10.2 percentage points from 43.6 percent in June to 53.8 percent, while the 30.6 percent increase in the price of eggs barely changed compared to June’s 31.4 percent.
Among plant products, the rate of annual price increase of cereals, potatoes and fruit accelerated, while the price increase of industrial crops and vegetables slowed by 5.4 and 0.3 percentage points, respectively.
Cereal prices were 82.2 percent higher than last July, which is 11.1 percentage points higher than in June. The purchase price of wheat more than doubled from last July, the 106.9 percent increase is 23.9 percentage points steeper than the previous month. The increase in the purchase price of corn increased by 3.4 percentage points to 63.3 percent. The price of potatoes, which is 18.8 percent higher than last July, shows a 13.1 percentage point higher increase than in June, the 4.3 percent annual price increase of fruits is a 2.5 percentage point higher increase than the previous month. The purchase price of vegetables was on average 27.4 percent higher than last July. The biggest price increase was for green peas, 51.2 percent, which is 7.4 percentage points more than in June. Cabbage costs 34.9 percent more than a year ago, and the rate of increase jumped 17.1 percentage points higher from June to July. The annual price increase of green beans and collard greens increased the most: by 18.2 and 17.1 percentage points, respectively, and thus peas became more expensive by 24.4 and cabbage by 34.9 percent in one year. The purchase price of lettuce was 29.2%, that of cucumbers 26.2%, that of tomatoes 24.6%, and that of red onion 22.5%, higher than last July. In July, the price increase of tomatoes alone slowed by 3.0 percentage points to 24.6 percent. The price of spinach rose by 25.5 percent in one year, the price of cauliflower rose by 14.5 percent, and the price of carrots by 3.2 percent in one year.
The 48.5 percent increase in the purchase price of live animals was driven by the soaring purchase price of slaughter pigs and slaughter cattle, the price of pigs increased by 48.9 percent in one year, which is a 10.3 percentage point higher increase than in June, the 61.7 percent increase of slaughter cattle 15 .8 percentage points higher than the previous month. The price of slaughter poultry was 49.9 percent higher than a year earlier, practically maintaining the 50 percent increase achieved in June, the price of fowls was 48.4 percent, the purchase price of turkey 38.6 percent higher than last July, that of geese 55.5 percent, that of ducks increased by 67.3 percent.
