KSH: half as many foreigners arrived, and their expenditures decreased by 56 percent
In the first three months of this year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and related restrictions, the number of foreigners visiting Hungary fell by almost half compared to a year before, to just 40 percent, compared to the first three months of 2019. The expenditures of visitors decreased by 56 percent, compared to a year before, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) told MTI.
In the first quarter, the number of visits by foreigners was 52 percent lower than in the same period of the previous year and 59 percent lower than in the first quarter of 2019. The number of same-day trips fell 47 percent to 4.1 million. Foreigners made 911,000 multi-day trips to Hungary, 68 percent less than a year before.
