KSH: industrial production increased by 6.4 percent in April
In April, the volume of industrial production exceeded the previous year by 6.4 percent, while, after adjusting for the effect of working days, it fell short by 2.4 percent, the significant difference compared to the raw data is caused by the fact that there were three more working days in this month than in April 2023, announced the Central Statistical Office (KSH) on Thursday.
Production increased in the majority of manufacturing sub-sectors, with the largest increase in food, beverage and tobacco production. Based on seasonally and working day-adjusted data, industrial output was 0.7 percent lower than in March 2024.
In April, the volume of industrial exports was 7.1 percent higher than a year earlier. The export of vehicle production, which accounted for 33 percent of manufacturing export sales, increased by 7.6 percent, while the production of electrical equipment, which accounted for 13 percent, fell by 9.8 percent.
The domestic sales of industry increased by 2.1 percent, and that of the manufacturing industry by 6.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.
The production of the manufacturing industry, which represents a decisive weight within the industry (96 percent), increased by 6.5 percent, that of the minor mining industry by 37 percent, and that of the energy industry (electricity, gas, steam supply, air conditioning) by 2.4 percent.
The volume of vehicle production, which represents 26 percent of manufacturing production, increased by 7.0 percent compared to April 2023. The production of road vehicles increased by 8.4 percent and the production of road vehicle components by 4.9 percent.
