KSH: the number of employed people in August was 4 million 676 thousand, the unemployment rate was 4.4 percent

In the three-month period from June to August 2025, the average number of employed persons among those aged 15-74 was 4 million 679 thousand, 36 thousand less than a year earlier. The number of employed persons among men decreased by 21 thousand, to 2 million 479 thousand, while in the case of women it decreased by 15 thousand, to 2 million 200 thousand.

The KSH highlighted that 4 million 503 thousand people worked in the domestic primary labor market, 50 thousand less than in the same period of the previous year. The number of public sector workers was 72 thousand, and the number of workers abroad was 105 thousand.

Despite the simultaneous decrease in the population and the number of employed people, the employment rate among those aged 15-64 remained practically unchanged at 75.4 percent. This value was 79.2 percent for men and 71.5 percent for women.

In the period from June to August 2025, the average number of unemployed people aged 15-74 was 217 thousand, and the unemployment rate was 4.4 percent.

The number of unemployed men was 115 thousand, and that of women was 102 thousand. The rate was 4.4 percent for both sexes, which was practically the same as the value between June and August of the previous year.

The report states that the average duration of job search was 11.1 months, 45.6 percent of the unemployed had been looking for a job for less than 3 months, while 29.6 percent had not found a job for at least a year.

According to administrative data from the National Employment Service (https://nfsz.munka.hu/), the number of registered job seekers decreased by 1.0 percent to 222 thousand at the end of August 2025 compared to a year earlier.
