KSH: food price increase in April was below the average
In April, consumer prices were 5.7 percent higher than a year earlier, and compared to March increased by 0.8 percent. Compared with a year earlier, fuel and tobacco prices increased significantly in April, while the price of services increased less than the average – published the Central Statistics Office (KSH) on Friday.
The monthly inflation rate is fixed at a relatively high level for three months. The annual inflation rate was higher only in February: 5.9 percent, while in January and in March it was 5.5 percent.
In the 27 member states of the European Union, consumer prices in March 2012 – according to the preliminary harmonized datas – were an average of 2.9 percent higher than in March 2011. The smallest increase in prices was registered in Sweden (1.1 percent) and Greece (1.4 percent), while the highest was registered in Hungary (5.5 percent) and in Estonia (4.7 percent). (MTI)
