In April, consumer prices were on average 2.4 percent higher than a year earlier. Compared to March, food prices rose 1.4 percent more than usual, which may have been due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. Vehicle fuel prices fell 16.4 percent in a month due to significantly falling oil prices, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Friday.

Analysts also expected inflation at 2.4 percent in April after the 3.9 percent in March.

Consumer prices fell by an average of 0.6 percent, compared to March.
Annual core inflation remained at 4.3 percent the same as in the previous month.
The 16.4 percent monthly decline in fuel prices as a result of oil prices alone contributed 1.1 percentage points to the one-month decline in the consumer price index, the KSH reported. (MTI)
