SPAR Returns To Finland After Nearly Two Decades
SPAR has returned to Finland after almost two decades, with the opening of a Eurospar supermarket in Ylöjärvi, west of Tampere.
Operated by Tokmanni, the SPAR licensee in Finland, this new supermarket offers a wide selection of affordable groceries, including produce, baked goods, meat, fish and drinks, ESM reports.
The 2,000-square-metre Eurospar store features a service counter offering Finnish meat and fish, as well as a diverse salad bar, along with the SPAR Bakery baking station, producing breads and pastries.
The offer includes local products from brands such as Primula, Valio, Fazer, Hartwall, Atria, Snellman, Juustoportti, Jukolan Juusto, Kuusamon Juusto, and Porin Leipä.
Additionally, customers can also choose from international SPAR offerings, ranging from Italian pasta and sauces to Dutch syrup waffles.
Besides the Eurospar supermarket, the Ylöjärvi location also houses a 3,000-square-metre Tokmanni store.
Exposure For The SPAR Brand
In addition to the new Eurospar location, Tokmanni plans to integrate SPAR products into 204 of its stores and revamp existing fresh-food sections to reflect the SPAR brand.
The retailer is exploring further opportunities for SPAR-branded grocery sections within its stores, but it is currently focused on introducing SPAR products and aligning its fresh-food departments with the SPAR concept.
Harri Koponen, VP of operations at Tokmanni Group in Finland, commented, “Tokmanni’s comprehensive product offering combined with the Eurospar supermarket’s diverse food selection is exactly what many of our customers have said they want, i.e. both more different options and things to buy in one shopping visit, and more price competition in the Finnish retail market.
“The expansion of the SPAR product range is currently under way, and more SPAR daily necessities will be available in all Tokmanni stores during the summer and early autumn.”
Tokmanni Group
In parallel, Tokmanni Group continues to expand its store network across Sweden, Denmark and Finland this year.
In Denmark, Big Dollar – Tokmanni Group’s variety discount retail chain, operated by Dollarstore – will open several new locations.
In Sweden, Dollarstore will also open new stores and relocate some existing ones.
In Finland, the Tokmanni variety discount retail chain will inaugurate new stores in Kemiönsaari and Jokela (Tuusula) and relocate its Nilsiä store in Kuopio to a new location.
