We owe thanks to farmers for the life-giving wheat and the bread made from it

At the event, the Minister highlighted that just as Szent István’s life’s work as a state organizer showed his love for the people living in Hungary and the Carpathian Basin, the love becomes tangible in the same way in the Hungarian Bread – 15 million grains of wheat program. Thanks to the initiative, farmers from the entire territory of our country and from the Hungarian-populated settlements of the Carpathian Basin are offering wheat to organizations helping Hungarian children in need. István Nagy said that the Hungarian Bread program has now grown into a new national holiday: a grassroots celebration of selfless helpfulness and national unity. This initiative is a good example of the unbroken presence of the elemental feeling of unity among Hungarians, he added.

The minister also mentioned that the total yield and yields per hectare during the summer harvest were favorable compared to previous expectations

The averages per hectare for all plant species are above the five-year averages. The average yield of winter wheat exceeded 5.5 tons and 5.4 million tons were harvested by the end of July. The average yield of winter barley is slightly higher, 5.75 tons, and the total yield is almost 1.6 million tons. Győr-Moson-Sopron County showed a better yield compared to the national average. The yield per hectare for wheat is 5.85 tons, and for winter barley it exceeds 6 tons, he highlighted.
