Csaba Kőrösi: the global economy is being redesigned along the sustainability goals
The implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) formulated in 2015 is not progressing very well, said Csaba Kőrösi, former President of the UN General Assembly, former President János Áder, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Blue Planet Climate Protection Foundation, in the latest episode of his podcast Blue Planet, published on Monday, which is also available on the most popular video sharing portal.
When asked how the implementation of the goals is halfway through, Csaba Kőrösi said that the situation is not rosy, they are currently at around 16 percent performance, and there are also areas where they are going backwards, i.e. they are worse off than in 2015.
According to János Áder’s explanation, this means that
if they were to continue at this pace, it would take 63 years to achieve the goals, but – as he pointed out – in the meantime the problems are piling up.
The chairman of the board of trustees of the Blue Planet Foundation recalled that in 2015, all member states of the UN adopted 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) and 169 sub-goals for the next 15 years, including on climate change, the water crisis, agriculture, environmental pollution, peace and urbanization, i.e. issues that affect everyday life.
The realization of the goals would serve to make the world more habitable, more peaceful and safer, he pointed out.
Csaba Kőrösi noted that the measurement is made more difficult by the fact that they do not have a measuring tool that could provide an accurate picture.
János Áder recalled their previous conversation in this regard, during which it was already stated that it was necessary to move beyond calculating in GDP, because it was not suitable for properly measuring the realization of the SDGs.
