Compromise-free vegan meals with Vegajó
The main sponsor of Veganuár 2025 – organised by Prove.hu – is the Fino Vegajó plant-based product range. Our magazine interviewed Linda Szommerné Egyed, managing director of Fino-Food Kft. (the manufacturer of Vegajó products) and Raul Vida, the founder of Prove.hu.
Abroad the Veganuár challenge had started six years ago and was first organised in Hungary in 2020 by Prove.hu – Hungary’s most popular online vegan magazine.
“With our Veganuár programme, we have tailored all the recipes, all the articles, the daily guides and the 30-day online programme to Hungarian needs. Participation in the January challenge is completely free”,
informs Raul Vida.
The organisers hope that at least 35,000 people will join the initiative. It is now much easier to take part in Veganuár, with many food companies offering plant-based alternatives to make a vegan diet more enjoyable.
“Research reveals that about1% of Hungarians are vegan and another 5% are vegetarian. These are very small proportions, but there are many people who are interested in plant-based foods for health reasons. Vegajó products target them as well”,
explains Linda Szommerné Egyed.
She adds that it is very important that Vegajó products are delicious, because if consumers don’t find a product tasty, it is really a big effort to stick to a vegan lifestyle. When developing the Vegajó products, their main objective is always to make sure that the taste and texture are excellent and as similar to dairy products as possible.
This initiative is also very important for Linda Szommerné Egyed personally, as she can’t eat eggs and milk proteins because she is allergic and neither can her children – so the family diet is predominantly plant-based, with lots of raw and cooked vegetables and occasionally animal-based ingredients. Raul Vida leads a completely vegan lifestyle and eats only plant-based foods. He originally switched to veganism because of animal welfare concerns.
There are plenty of opportunities for Veganuár 2025 participants, as more and more FMCG stores are open to the listing of plant-based products. Today almost every major retail chain has a counter selling only vegan products. Both experts are hopeful that Veganuár 2025 will encourage many people to try plant-based alternatives. (x)
