Budapest is facing serious tourism growth, especially in the field of conference tourism
The future growth of tourism in Budapest can be double-digit if the capital implements the developments that will enable it to catch up with the capitals of neighboring countries. In connection with the McKinsey study, Margaux Constantin and András Havas, partners of the consulting company, highlighted to Pénzcentrum that Budapest can improve its tourism in many areas. In the coming years, the city may be able to grow significantly if it manages to attract premium travelers, build high-capacity hotels, and organize several medium-sized events and conferences.
According to András Havas, two scenarios were defined in the field of tourism: a conservative and an ambitious goal. These can result in an annual increase of 7-12 percent in terms of visitors, guest nights and tourism expenditures. These measures can contribute to the expansion of Hungary’s GDP by 1.5-2.5 percentage points and the creation of 20-50 thousand new jobs by the end of the decade.
Global positioning plays an important role in the development of tourism. Margaux Constantin pointed out that Budapest offers much more than the often mentioned baths and ruin pubs. The city has rich historical, cultural and gastronomic values, which should be better exploited in international marketing. In addition, it is important to develop air and rail connections, strengthen conference tourism, and expand hotel capacities, especially in the premium category.
