Serious cybercrimes threaten economic actors
The Allianz Risk Barometer 2023 shows both stability and change. For the second year in a row, cyber security incidents and business interruption topped the list of companies’ biggest concerns (both were in 34 percent of all responses). This year, however, changes in the macroeconomic environment, such as inflation, financial market volatility and the looming recession (which moved from 10th place to 3rd in the annual comparison), as well as the effects of the energy crisis (opened as a new factor in 4th place) its importance has increased to the greatest extent. This change can be attributed to the unfolding economic and political consequences of the aftermath of Covid-19 and the war raging in Ukraine affecting the entire world.
Such pressing difficulties also prompt companies to take immediate action, which explains why the risks associated with natural disasters (from 3rd to 6th) and climate change (from 6th to 7th) annual ranking, just as the pandemic (from 4th place to 13th) also lost its importance as a result of the end of closures and restrictions thanks to vaccinations. Political risks and politically motivated violence are also new factors among the top ten global risks (10th place), while the lack of skilled labor moved up to 8th place. Legal and regulatory changes are still among the main risks (in 5th place), but fire/explosion has dropped two places, so it is only 9th. The complete global and country risks can be viewed in the full – in English – Risk In barometer.
