There could be serious problems with air transport this summer
Airlines have to face serious challenges during the summer peak season of air travel, as several flight cancellations are expected due to the lack of the necessary aircraft due to the tightness of the leasing market.
The situation is aggravated by the fact that Avia Solutions, the world’s largest aircraft leasing company, reports that they have only 8 available aircraft, while demand has increased significantly compared to before. This lack of aircraft can result not only in flight cancellations, but also in the summer period, up to 10 percent higher fares, as predicted by Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary.
Airlines are already forced to search intensively for available aircraft to meet travel demands. TUI, British Airways and Lufthansa already have several of these leased planes, but Turkish Airlines is the best with more than 30 leased planes.
The problems are not limited to the availability of aircraft. Airbus, for example, recalled hundreds of engines due to safety concerns, affecting 650 planes, making the situation worse. And earlier this year, Martha Neubauer, a senior fellow at AeroDynamic Advisory, warned that airlines would receive 19 percent fewer aircraft, further exacerbating the vehicle shortage.
