Cola tax in the United States
Sooner or later extra taxes will be imposed on soft drinks in the United States at federal level – predicts industry analysts, after a growing number of state and city leaderships are trying to dishabituate people of unhealthy sweet drinks.
New York State Governor David Paterson and Michael Bloomberg New York mayor asked local legislators, to accept the imposition of 1 cent tax for 1 ounce (28.3 grams) for added sugar or other sweetener of beverages. According to Paterson; the beverages industry should contribute to the obesity disease treatments estimated at 7.6 billion USD annually. The governor expects 1.2 billion dollars tax revenues from the measure.
The industry, of course protests, against these tax plans. In their opinion these plans do not based on not health protection, but fiscal aspects – reports Világgazdaság Online, after Reuters.
