The company has entrusted real estate consultant Cushman & Wakefield Echinox with the sale of its properties. The portfolio includes 800 hectares of agricultural land and a factory in Sebes.

HempFlax decided to withdraw from Romania as part of a strategic reassessment

The concept is to shorten supply chains and focus investments closer to Western European customers, focusing on high-value-added products instead of large-scale production. Founded in 1993, HempFlax produces building materials, industrial raw materials, dietary supplements and bedding for pets from hemp. It has been present in Romania since 2013, where in recent years it has farmed 90 percent of the country’s hemp-growing land. The plant in Szaszsebes, which was commissioned in 2015, produces construction materials. The company also grows hemp in the Netherlands and Germany, and has a plant in the Netherlands. HempFlax Europe SRL’s sales revenue fell from 10.802 million lei (about 806 million forints) in two years to 2.966 million lei (about 221 million forints) in 2024, which ended the year with a net profit of 14,560 lei (about 1.1 million forints).
