The demand for spicy food is growing dramatically in our country
For Hungarians, cuisine without a spicy flavor is unimaginable, and its popularity is also growing. Almost exactly three quarters of the population eat spicy food at least once a week. It is particularly noticeable how much the younger age group is attracted to such foods and food seasonings, this age group can be considered absolutely open and experimental in this field – according to the large-scale online research conducted by Univer Product Zrt., which surveyed nearly 4,000 people.
Popularity of the hot taste among the general public has increased significantly in the last few years. Far more than a third of the respondents (36.4%) stated that they consume spicy food much more often than before, according to a recent online survey conducted by Univer Product Zrt., conducted at the end of August and beginning of September, with 3,872 people interviewed. One of the apropos of the research is that the company is organizing the first Erős Pista Fest in Kecskemét on October 13-14, in connection with which they were curious about how Hungarians relate to spicy flavors. The company also wanted to draw attention to the 130th anniversary of the birth of Albert Szent-Györgyi, Nobel Prize-winning Hungarian doctor and discoverer of vitamin C extracted from paprika, on September 16. One explanation for the increase in popularity can be the rise of more conscious, health-preserving food in the last few years, especially after the pandemic. Among the participants in the research, there is an outstanding opinion (58.4%) that spicy foods disinfect and detoxify.
