The melon season starts with a smaller domestic supply
A larger amount of domestic melons are expected to be marketed from 1 July.
The watermelon harvest can begin at the end of the week, early next week, so a large number of Hungarian melons are expected to arrive to the markets at the beginning of July – Ledó Ferenc president of the FruitVeB Hungarian Vegetable and Fruit Trade Association and Product Council told.
This is somewhat a delay, compared to the usual, and it is likely that melon producers will be able to take a smaller quantity at the beginning of the season. At the time of flowering, the nights were cooler, the yield of the fruit was weaker. According to Ledó Ferenc, however, it would be a pity to bury the melon season, because in August the crop could be even bigger from the second flowering. (Kelemen Zoltán, vg.hu)
