China is now the third most common destination for Cuban cigars
Cuba exported six million cigars more last year than in 2009, but the industry's performance does not reach the 100 million pieces export of 2008. As a result of the smoking bans the new destination for Cuban cigars became Asia, primarily China.
China is now the third most common destination for Cuban cigars after Spain and France. Habanos produces an increasing variety of cigarillos for men to smoke during their working break, but also designs cigars for female smokers.
Demand for lower quality cigars also increased. Last year nearly 300 million pieces were produced from these products, the figure in 2008 was only 278 million pieces – reports origo, after Telegraph.
