In general, customers spend 2-3 hours in shopping centers for coupon deals and even stand in line in stores if the discount on the selected product is big enough, Etele Plaza’s online research shows. Visitors mostly redeem discount vouchers for clothes and shoes, food and cleaning products. There are many customers who walk 3-5 kilometers during a coupon shopping trip, so they can burn hundreds of calories. Nearly 500 respondents shared their shopping habits with coupons in the shopping center’s survey on the occasion of the Etele Coupon Days. Two-thirds of those surveyed (62%) use coupons at least once a month, and every third (29%) customer uses them weekly during their shopping. In shopping malls, discount vouchers are mostly redeemed for clothes and shoes, food, cleaning products and services, such as cinema tickets or gym passes. With a coupon purchase, a third of those who complete it (33%) save between HUF 5,000 and HUF 10,000, and every fourth respondent (24%) saves more than HUF 10,000 on sports. A third of customers (30%) would stand in line in stores at any time in order to buy at a discount within the framework of a coupon campaign, while half of visitors (49%) would only wait if the discount was big enough. Every tenth (13%) respondent would only be willing to stop if the promotion applies to a long-desired product.
