Sailing out of the crisis – with innovations
“We sail out of the crisis!” This was the motto of the trade symposium organised by STI Petőfi Nyomda Kft. on the Zsófia event boat in September. Managing director Dr Tom Giessler told this was not a simple phrase: – We all suffer from tighter budgets, so this is how we use our marketing budget instead of exhibiting at Budatranspack. This way we can get closer to our partners and exchange our experiences in an informal way. According to Endre Fábián, more enterprises are active in the country than the market is able to support. He thinks that the crisis might have positive effects as well: with the drastic increase in the number of bankruptcy procedures, a cleansing process will take place. STI Petőfi, while the processing industry declined by 15-30 percent, managed to grow. Sales director György Kolozsvári pointed out that the increasing number of colours or stronger competition also influence the market. STI Petőfi’s predecessor started producing self-adhesive labels in 1975, at the moment this segment generates 10 percent of their sales turnover (HUF 1.4 billion last year). Attila Balázs told that they use offset technology, but there is room for innovations in this field as well. Zoltán Tóth, product development group manager informed us that CAD-3D modelling shortens the period for putting products on the market.
