Women play an important role in food supply
Last year, 53,000 women worked full-time in the domestic food supply, their role is outstanding in the sector – said the Deputy State Secretary responsible for agriculture Anikó Juhász at the 8th UN International Day of Rural Women Conference organized by the Hungarian Women’s Union at the Ministry of Agriculture.
In her welcoming speech, Anikó Juhász explained that women the size of a medium-sized city work in domestic agriculture, where almost a third of the workforce in 2022 was female. And according to the 2023 census of the economic structure of the Central Statistical Office (KSH), we have 196,000 farms of which 30 percent, i.e. more than 56,000 farms, are managed by women. The deputy state secretary emphasized that we should not forget the role of women as family breadwinners, who are also one of the most essential supports of rural society and farmers. He added that the Ministry of Agriculture does everything to support women farmers. The TalentA Program founded by the international agricultural company Corteva Agriscience was presented at the conference. According to Anikó Juhász, initiatives like this are important, which on the one hand equip female farmers with up-to-date knowledge in the fields of business management, finance or agricultural production, and on the other hand contribute to the implementation of innovative projects through mentoring, financial support and the presentation of good examples.
