Magazine: A little bit personal
This year, the Lifetime Achievement Award founded by Trade magazin went to László Hovánszky, one of the members of the presidency of Chain Bridge Club. As I missed the occasion, let me shortly share my first impression in honour of my dear friend.
Back in November 1994, I visited a gala dinner of the trade. As a ‘freshman’ in FMCG, I didn’t know anyone, so I looked around to find the life and soul of the party. A larger mass of people gravitated to a moderately but elegantly dressed man, a refreshing figure in the golden age of tassel loafers. He talked in a low voice but with determination and power so that he made a very convincing impression on me. Everyone knew him – except for me – because he, called Mr Hovánszky, Laci or Hovi – was the food purchasing director of METRO.
As such, this very important person has always kept himself to the rule I learned from my grandparents: ‘ein Mann, ein Wort’ meaning ‘your word is your bond’. This would make a great fundament for even a castle, though, we only built the Chain Bridge Club on it, where our common work has been based on the same credo.
After thirty years of joint efforts, we are like Humphrey Bogart and Claude Rains at the end of the epic movie, Casablanca. Even if we once vanish in the haze, our beautiful friendship remains always as it is.
My dear Friend! Congratulations for the Lifetime Achievement Award. //
