Disillusioned parents versus ambitious children: what do Generation X and young Z want?
According to the parents of 15-19-year-old teenagers, it is primarily necessary to take advantage of opportunities to succeed, who today consider hard work almost not at all, and a diploma and a good profession a third more important than having someone to eat, according to the UniCredit Bank representative. from his survey, which asked young adults on the verge of adulthood (Generation Z) and their parents (Generation X) about success and happiness.
Is the world really fair?
According to 66 percent of parents, the number one key to success is if someone takes advantage of the opportunities offered, while only a third of the respondents (33 and 27 percent) believe that a good profession or degree is necessary for success.According to parents, the importance of hard work is dwarfed: only 6 percent believe that their child can succeed with a lot of work. After making good use of the opportunities, parents attribute the greatest importance to their child learning from his own mistakes and to learning how to handle money (57-57%).
On the other hand, according to the majority of Hungarian generation Z young people, those who can handle money and people well can be truly successful: 71 and 56 percent of the respondents said this. A third of the interviewed young people believe that they could be successful as entrepreneurs (33%), but only 12% of parents agree with this. The interviewed teenagers attach much more importance to the choice of profession and to higher studies than their parents: 51 percent of them believe that a good profession and 43 percent of them believe that a diploma can make them successful in the future.
It is not enough that the opinion of the youth of Generation Z and their parents about success differs significantly, but parents also attach much less importance to success than to happiness: while 55 percent of them think that the most important thing is for their child to be happy, success is only 7 percent think the same.
