Who saves how in the region? We’ll show you!
Out of the six examined countries in the Eastern-Central European region, the proportion of those who feel that their financial situation has improved recently has increased the most in Romania, while the Hungarians strengthen the camp of the most pessimistic. The Czechs set aside the most each month, while the Serbs can save the least. It can be said to be general in the region that those who have savings primarily try to prepare for unexpected situations, and they prefer to keep their money in banks, primarily in savings or current accounts.
Out of Erste Group’s six Central and Eastern European markets outside of Austria (Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia), the largest proportion (53 percent) of Croatians feel that their financial situation has worsened in the last 2-3 years. The situation at home is only slightly better: 52 percent of Hungarians see their finances in a darker light, and the biggest decline was also measured in Hungary, a year earlier only 44 percent thought that they were living worse. On the other hand, many people in Romania perceive an improvement in their financial situation: the proportion of those who reported a deterioration in their financial situation decreased from 38 percent a year earlier to 29 percent, while 6 percentage points more, 24 percent, declared a marked improvement, according to a representative report prepared by IMAS International for Erste Group. from his research, which examined the savings habits of the population over 15 years old with a bank connection.
