K&H: we don’t have much time left to reach the 55 percent reduction
The Hungarian economy still has 6 years to reach the EU’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55 percent. All economic actors must participate in this, and financial institutions play a major role in helping the population and businesses transition to sustainability. K&H’s 2023 sustainability report reveals that the financial institution helps create a more sustainable economy with its lending policy focusing on renewable energy production, its investment and residential green products, and its unique calculators, and thanks to its innovative services, almost everything can be done with just a few clicks of a button.
Let’s go to 55 percent! – this is what the European Union set its flag on in the 2015 Paris climate protection agreement, the essence of which is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55 percent by 2030 compared to 1990, thus helping to keep global warming below 1.5°C . However, based on the March 2024 report of the Carbon Disclosure Project, only 20 percent of European companies take steps to ensure that their products, suppliers and business strategies are sustainable, so it is no wonder that, according to experts, there is only a chance of reaching 2%.
“We only have 6 years left to reach the goal set by the Union in reducing GHG emissions – and all economic actors must participate in this, since only by working together can we create a sustainable economic environment that is more resistant to climate change”
– said Guy Libot, CEO of the K&H Group.
