K&H: how much do young people spend on gifts?
The majority of young people, 84 percent, plan to give gifts to their loved ones at Christmas. They spend an average of HUF 40,000 on gifts this year, compared to HUF 37,000 last year. At the same time, the median amount is HUF 25,000, so half of the young people preparing to give a gift spend more than this, the other half less, according to the K&H youth index. 3 percent of young people do not spend on gifts, they prepare the surprises themselves.
Young people would spend a little more money to buy presents for Christmas this year than a year ago, but the differences are very significant, according to the K&H youth index, which examined the Christmas shopping habits of 19-29-year-olds. 84 percent of the young people surveyed plan to give gifts to their loved ones, especially their parents, partners, and spouses. 34 percent of them also prepare a surprise for their friends, which means a significant increase compared to last year’s 23 percent.
