K&H: TikTok scammers have appeared
Phishers do not ask for personal information from their victims – they can target anyone, regardless of age. Moreover, they are already trying on TikTok, so young people can also be targeted. K&H not only warns, but also gives advice to Generation Z and parents of teenagers on how to surf the internet consciously and safely. In addition, K&H’s Vigyázz, szét, pénz! competition for students helps young people to recognize and avoid online dangers themselves.
The most common methods used by phishers cannot be repeated enough. Fraudsters often send messages (e-mails, SMS, social media posts, direct messages) that seem official, in which they try to get their victims to click on a link, download a file or provide their personal information by referring to some urgent or exciting situation. Their goal is usually to open a back door to users’ money. That’s why they try to get their login details (usernames, passwords), or their bank card details (card number, expiration date, CVV code), or their personal identifiers (ID card number, address, phone number), or other confidential information (social security number, health data).
TikTok’s popularity and the fast-paced, visual content that spreads on the platform have created new opportunities for cybercriminals to carry out their dark activities. Once the data is obtained, criminals can easily misuse the information they have obtained – putting not only our money but also our online identity at risk. K&H’s cybersecurity experts have therefore collected some common phishing methods and warning signs that are spreading on TikTok – offering useful advice for both parents and young people to stay safe online.
