K&H: Even livestock farmers can learn about their greenhouse gas emissions
Animal husbandry is responsible for nearly one-seventh of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, mainly from gases from digestion, manure treatment, forage production and energy consumption. One of the bases for the sustainable operation of agriculture is the reduction of GHG, but for this, the emissions of the given farm must be known.
K&H – winner of the “Sustainability Bank of the Year Hungary 2023” award from Euromoney – has therefore expanded the K&H agricultural CO2 calculator, created jointly with the Institute of Agricultural Economics, which shows the carbon footprint of the given livestock farm, thus strengthening their awareness and helping the transition to a green economy. .
According to the preliminary data of the 2023 survey by the KSH GSZÖ, the proportion of livestock breeders in all agricultural enterprises in Hungary is only 14 percent.
“Within the K&H greyhound loan portfolio, the share of animal husbandry is much higher than the national average, 43 percent. We are therefore strongly connected to animal husbandry, so we see and understand the challenges and opportunities affecting these companies, one of the most important of which is the implementation of green farming. After all, sustainability is not only a requirement of regulators and consumers, but also the key to efficient operation due to high energy costs. As Euromoney’s “Sustainable Bank of the Year Hungary 2023″ award, we therefore want to pass on our knowledge to our partners and clients in a practice-oriented manner.”
– said Zoltán Demeter, K&H, the best digital bank of the year, Head of the Agricultural Division.
