K&H: young people are more optimistic than a year ago
Young people are more satisfied – this is the overall conclusion of the K&H Youth Index survey, which examined the satisfaction of 19-29 year-olds with their own lives in the third quarter. The index value rose to 16 points from 15 points a quarter earlier and 11 points a year ago – so the indicator has improved significantly on an annual basis.
According to the K&H Youth Index, the satisfaction of young people increased to a level not seen in years in the third quarter. The representative research has been measuring the satisfaction of young people with their own lives since the end of 2012, among other things, based on a number of aspects, such as their financial situation and prospects, and their role in the labor market. The index value in the third quarter was 16 points. This corresponds to a modest increase of 1 point compared to the 15 points in the second quarter, but a significant improvement compared to the 11 points in the third quarter of last year.
Key issue: the situation of young people
“The data for three of the last four quarters were particularly favorable: the most recent index value exceeding 16 points was at the beginning of 2021. In this quarter, the opinion of students improved in most cases, and this was enough to offset the moderately pessimistic opinion of active earners. The importance of financial security increased in this quarter, and here too the opinion of students improved the most”
– Zoltán Rammacher, Head of Marketing for the K&H Retail Customer Segment, presented the results of the research. He added:
“The situation of young people fundamentally determines the performance of both the economic and financial sectors through their earnings, their willingness to borrow, their plans to move and their savings. The peak value of the index in the twelve years since the start of the survey was 20 points, and it reached this level twice, in 2019 and early 2021.
According to the detailed results of the survey, 34 percent were satisfied with their lives in the third quarter. This does not represent a significant change compared to the 33 points reached a quarter earlier and the 35 points reached in the third quarter of 2023.
