K&H: the future of agriculture depends on young agricultural professionals
Well-trained agricultural professionals have a special role in the implementation of solutions that determine the future of agriculture – K&H told MTI on Monday in connection with the announcement of the results of the bank’s scholarship application for sustainable agriculture.
The bank expects the transformation of the food market due to climate change, environmental changes, and the transformation of consumer needs, however, according to the announcement, the new generation must also strengthen the safety of the food supply. Based on the experience of recent years, supply chains can be disrupted due to geopolitical conflicts, so food is increasingly becoming a strategic product, while sustainability is an increasingly strong requirement for producers as well, they wrote.
Due to global changes, K&H expects the rise of climate-friendly, resistant plant varieties and precision animal husbandry
Changes may also come in the supply of raw materials, and based on their expectations, demand may shift towards alternative diets and protein sources, as well as ready-made and fast-food meals. Based on the experience of K&H’s scholarship application for sustainable agriculture, among the challenges, young Hungarian agricultural professionals are most interested in sustainable water management, but they also research, among other things, nutrient replenishment technologies for crop cultivation, as well as the possibility of using plant antibiotics in animal husbandry, they added.
At the announcement of the results of the competition on Monday, the institutional special prize was awarded to the University of Veterinary Medicine
The winner of the PhD category, Ádám Fierpasz, applied with a water monitoring system supporting precision water management. Ábel Szabó, the 1st place winner of the master’s program category, applied by determining the effectiveness of antibiotic alternatives that can be used in animal husbandry. One of the winners of the basic training category, Levente Balogh, examined the possibilities of securing the irrigation water supply, while Anna Hajgató dealt with the reduction of nitrate pollution in the water base, K&H announced.
Before the 2023 application, 380 professional works were submitted to the bank’s scholarship application for sustainable agriculture
Of these, 62 received a total of HUF 10.2 million in support to continue their research work in order to work for more efficient, safer and sustainable agriculture – read on the company’s website.
