Based on the latest data from the MNB, in the first quarter of 2024, more than 136,000 instant transactions initiated for payment requests were completed, worth nearly HUF 5.8 billion. This is more than a 16-fold increase compared to the same period in 2023, and a nearly 3-fold increase compared to the previous quarter. The money.hu expert found out how much money bank customers can save by using this simple additional service.

A payment request is a form of transfer that allows us to transfer money to our friends, family members or business partners without transaction fees. The sender of the request can request an immediate transfer from us via the bank’s mobile application or internet bank, which we can even accept immediately and the recipient will receive the amount approved by us within seconds. Sending the request is completely free of charge, and from April this year, all banks dealing with retail account management are required to accept the payment request.

The great advantage of the payment request is that, in the case of transfers sent through it, from November 23, 2022, based on the decision of the central bank, you do not have to pay the 0.3% transaction tax of a maximum of HUF 10,000 per transfer, so it is not only convenient, but also cheaper – as opposed to traditional bank transfers.
