Hungarians eat less meat
In recent decades, the level of meat consumption has increased rapidly worldwide, but signs of a change in trend can already be noticed in some places, including Hungary.
The world’s meat consumption reached 320 million tons in 2018, which is an impressive amount. However, signs of a decrease in meat consumption can also be observed in richer countries, reports the Agricultural Sector.
In Hungary, for example, per capita meat consumption peaked in the 1980s, with a consumption of about 80 kilograms, but by 2010 this had already decreased to 55-60 kilograms. Although this ratio has been increased through campaigns and efforts in the last decade, according to the latest data, meat consumption in Hungary continues to show a downward trend.
