We can pay twice with Mastercard at twice as many places than three years ago
Mastercard launched its Doppio infrastructure development program in Hungary in November 2019 with the aim of doubling the number of domestic card terminals in three years. One of the most important goals was achieved, but in addition, many innovations became available under the auspices of Doppio.
According to the latest data released by the MNB, by the second quarter of 2022, Hungarian customers could pay at more than 230,000 POS terminals, which represents a huge step forward in just a few years. Taking into account that there are tens of thousands of terminals that are provided to domestic merchants by service providers based abroad, according to Mastercard’s estimate, we have already reached double the 2019 data. However, the payment technology company is not only proud of this result.
“At the start of the Doppio program, we set several goals. Among these, doubling the number of terminals was one of the most important, but we also wanted to reform the market of available devices and digitize the related administration. Today, we are at the point where merchants can submit requests digitally and accept card payments even after a few days. What’s more, they don’t need a separate device for this anymore, with the Telephone terminal solution, their own smartphone can also be suitable for this”
Ferenc Szász, Mastercard’s business development director, listed the achieved results.
