The number of needy children in Hungary has increased to two hundred thousand
In Hungary, more and more people are suffering from poverty due to the current economic situation, as well as inflation and partial utility increases. Many small children never receive a Santa package or Easter eggs, and in fact, the tragedy of more and more families is that fruits, vegetables, and meat are not even on the table.
Today, there are approximately 200,000 children in Hungary who would need help. For most schoolchildren, summer vacation is a time of cloudless fun, vacations, and non-stop play. For these 200,000 children, however, it means uncertainty and a rumbling stomach. The Children’s Nutrition Foundation, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, works together with other civil organizations every day to ensure that they, too, can spend the holidays well and fully satisfied.
Food poverty was already a serious problem in the breakaway regions in previous years, but the consequences of food inflation are still unforeseeable. According to statistics, the number of hungry people may even double. At the same time, a person who cannot afford to buy high-quality raw materials, ensuring the nutrients, vitamins and proteins necessary for the optimal functioning of the body, is also food-poor. According to statistics conducted in the 26 countries of the European Union, in 2020, 5.5 percent of the population over the age of 16 in the EU suffered from food poverty. In Hungary, nearly 1 million adults are affected by the problem, which is the fourth worst among the EU countries, right after Bulgaria.
