Winter destroyed two million hectares of Russian crops
Data from the Agricultural Economics Research Institute (AKI) and KSH’s market price information system (PÁIR) help to make business decisions. Russia’s grain council reported that autumn crops have to be replanted on 2 million hectares (12.6 percent of crops) this spring, due to the bad condition of the plants. Russia’s Ministry of Agriculture forecasts a 95-million ton cereal yield for 2013 and estimates to have a 33-million hectare area for spring-planted crops. Hungary’s Ministry of Rural Development informed that autumn wheat was planted on 1.1 million hectares and 67 percent of the plants are in good condition. Pig farming: according to KSH, on 1 December 2012 there were 2,956 million pigs registered in Hungary, 2.3 percent less than a year earlier but 1.5 percent more than on 1 June 2012.
