Double digit growth in quantity as well
According to the Nielsen Retail Index, retails sales of praline exceeded HUF 18 billion in the June 200 – May 2008 period. Praline sales grew by 13 per cent in terms of value and by 11 per cent in terms of quantity. Average prices of mixed pralines increased in both the alcoholic and non-alcoholic segments, while that of homogeneous pralines dropped. The price of one kilo of non-alcoholic mixed praline was up by 7 per cent this May, compared to the same month in 2007, at HUF 3,368. Non-alcoholic, homogeneous praline remains the largest segment, accounting for 50 per cent of the market in terms of quantity. The marker share of private labels 28 per cent. Modern store chains are the primary distribution channel for pralines.
