Korea moves to Margaret Island for two days: the free KoreaON 2025 cultural festival starts!
The summer in Budapest will once again bring the KoreaON cultural festival, which this time will be held in the Kristály Színtér in Margitsziget. K-pop fans, K-beauty followers and guests open to oriental gastronomy will all find what they are looking for. The two-day, completely free festival will be framed by music and dance. Between June 27-28, workshops, crafts, cooking demonstrations and tastings will entice you to the cultural space of the oasis surrounded by the Danube.
Europe and the world are increasingly open to the diversity of Korea, and the demand is growing to get closer to traditions. For example, let’s explore their facial care routine, master the calligraphy of the old days, learn how to ferment the wonderful kimchi or just try out some movements to K-pop melodies. For two days, we can now start or continue learning about ancient, yet often modern, traditions with free programs.
Performers and performances will follow each other from opening to closing on two stages. In addition to the all-day stage productions, visitors can get acquainted with the cultural values of the distant country on nearly 1,500 square meters.
Concerts, performances and of course a K-pop party
One of the festival’s big hits is the Sweet Sorrow vocal group, which will perform on the 28th at 7:00 PM. It started out as the Yonsei University men’s choir, GLEE CLUB, and has since had a great career. The unique and spectacular musical and mask performances of the Kkokdu Gwangdae theater company are also an experience for children, as they show the importance of family togetherness in their stories. In addition to their big stage performances, they are also preparing for parades, where they will give a joint program with several Hungarian performers. Showing that despite the 8,000 km distance between the two countries, the cultural bond is stronger than anything. The productions bring the vibrant atmosphere of the fairs to the entire event area.
Thanks to the dance formations Mugunghwa, Nawoul and Manwol, we can also get to know traditional Korean dances that stimulate all the senses. The dazzling costumes, precise movements and pulsating melodies are guaranteed to enchant the audience. The Korean-Hungarian choir Noremoá also strengthens the unity of the nations, while the Mindeulle team plays the most famous traditional instrument in its colorful repertoire: the kajagüm.
