Global trade of agricultural products doubled in 20 years
According to FAO’s latest Report on the State of Agricultural Commodity Markets, the value of the global agri-food trade grew to USD 1.5 billion, i.e. more than doubled between 1995 and 2018. Emerging and developing countries have become part of the global value chain and they now account for about one-third of global trade. In our rapidly changing world, however, we need to redouble efforts to include small-scale producers in modern food value chains, thus securing rural incomes and food security for them. To support them, policies and mechanisms allowing the markets to realize their purposes are needed, and Csü Tung-jü director general of FAO wrote, and the digital divide in the sector is to be reduced.
