Aldi Nord launches cash withdrawal service in Germany
From 14 October 2024, Aldi Nord allows customers to withdraw cash at the checkout in all its stores in Germany.
Under the service shoppers will be able to withdraw up to €200 per occasion in €10 increments, subject to a minimum purchase amount of just €1. The new service could be particularly helpful for those living in areas where bank branches or ATMs are scarce.
Aldi Nord is introducing the service following the example of Rewe, Penny, Aldi Süd and other chains that have been providing such service for some time. According to the German Retail Federation (HDE), cash withdrawals are now available in more than 22,000 shops, drugstores, DIY stores and petrol stations across the country.
Maestro and V-Pay credit cards as well as Master and Visa cards, as well as contactless payment solutions are accepted for cash withdrawal. According to Aldi Nord, the introduction of the cash withdrawal facility is justified by the increased customer demand, especially in regions where the availability of banking services is limited.
The service, which had previously been tested in some regions such as Herten and Sievershausen, was well received by customers and employees alike. In rural areas, access to cash is becoming increasingly difficult due to the closure of bank branches and the decline in the number of ATMs.
