The weather is favorable for harvesting corn, but sunflowers and corn need more rainfall
The current dry weather is ideal for harvesting corn, but sunflowers and corn would benefit from additional rainfall, the National Meteorological Service wrote in its agrometeorological analysis on Thursday.
The amount of precipitation in the past week shows great regional variability, until Wednesday midnight 10-30 millimeters of rain fell in most of Transdanubia, but almost nothing to the west of Győr, and higher amounts mainly occurred locally to the east of the Danube. Over the past thirty days, more precipitation has fallen in most parts of the country than the long-term average, with a considerable deficit in the southern part of the Alföld, in the northwest, and east and southeast of Debrecen. In the middle soil layer, from which the summer plants absorb moisture most intensively, there are critically dry areas in the Great Plain.
The average temperature in recent days has been between 20 and 23 degrees Celsius, with values between 27 and 31 degrees typically measured in the hottest hours
They added: in addition to barley, wheat and rapeseed are also being harvested in more and more places, and warm, dry weather would be ideal for this in the future as well. However, for the sunflowers and corn that are blooming in more and more places, additional precipitation would be good even in the areas that were not affected by the thunderstorms.
In the continuation, the precipitation tendency decreases
On Friday, there may be scattered showers and thunderstorms only in the southern part of the country, and from Saturday, it will be possible to proceed with harvesting work in sunny, dry weather throughout the country. On Sunday, the temperature will be above 30 degrees in a large area, and heat is expected in most parts of the country from Monday, with peak values of 33-37 degrees in many places. UV radiation will also be high, which can cause sunburn on the leaves of plants and on sensitive vegetables and fruits. From Saturday until the middle of next week, during the warm, dry weather, atmospheric drought is also expected during the day, the relative humidity will be very low, they wrote.
