Viktor Orbán is also upset about the price increases
Enough is enough, we will put an end to unjustified price increases – the prime minister announced on his social media page on Tuesday.
In a video shared on his Facebook page, Viktor Orbán said that in order to curb unjustified and excessive price increases, the government has been negotiating with representatives of retail chains in recent days.
“Unfortunately, the offers of retailers fell far short of our expectations, so we had to decide to introduce measures on trade,”
– he said, adding that from mid-March, the margin of retailers for 30 basic foodstuffs cannot exceed 10 percent.
Viktor Orbán explained that in the recent period, this was 40 percent for eggs and more than 80 percent for butter and sour cream, “let’s face it, this is unacceptable.”
For all foods where the margin has disappeared, prices should be reduced so that the consumer price exceeds the purchase price by a maximum of 10 percent, and this will be monitored
– he emphasized.
The Prime Minister underlined that these measures will be introduced in mid-March and will be in force until the end of May. “We will review them then and, if necessary, continue them. We will put an end to excessive and unjustified price increases,” he emphasized.
