Tourism is on the rise: the number of guest nights increased by 3.1%
The increase in the number of guest nights fell to 3.1% from 14.6% in the previous month, due to the gradual lifting of restrictions against the epidemic a year ago, but the firm recovery of the sector after Covid continued. Within this, the number of domestic guest nights decreased by 16.5%, partly because many more people could choose to vacation abroad, while some domestic guests may have become more cautious due to the increase in household energy prices above average consumption and rising inflation, as well as more uncertain prospects.
At the same time, the number of guest nights of foreigners continued to rise robustly by 60%, which shows the rapid return of foreign guests. The sales revenue of the accommodations thus increased by 16% in August compared to a year ago. Although the data show substantial improvement, the recovery is still only partial compared to pre-epidemic levels, but at the same time, domestic tourism fully recovered in the summer months of last year, which resulted in a high base. In the first eight months, the number of guest nights increased by a total of 70%, including domestic ones by 31% and foreigners by 200%.
