The 860 billion forint development demand in the livestock sector is a good message
This year, those active in the livestock sector have requested 860 billion forints of support for large and small projects, which is a good message because it shows that there is perspective in the sector – said Zsolt Feldman, State Secretary for Agriculture and Rural Development of the Ministry of Agriculture, at the inauguration of the pig farm of K64 Farm Kft. renovated at a cost of almost 5 billion forints in Dormánd on Friday.
The State Secretary reminded that the largest agricultural renewal program since the change of regime was launched in 2021. In the tender system aimed at renewing livestock farming, 1,350 projects were launched in 2021-2022, in which farms are renovated or built as greenfield investments. According to Zsolt Feldman, “anyone who is in this business knows that we have had some rough years in pig farming,” a few years ago the farm infrastructure, which is now a distinctly technology- and knowledge-based sector, was on average 25 years old. “Among the competitiveness or inability data from a few years ago, there are many indicators that indicated that there is room for improvement. This is a polite way of putting it for decades of neglect,” he said.
The KARKUS group of companies K64 Farm Kft. owner’s managing director, János Karkus, explained that the renovated pig farm had undergone structural transformation and was equipped with modern equipment
The farm, which was converted for contract fattening, has modern, sorting gate solutions, which partly serve to separate the feeding and resting areas, partly to herd animals below the set weight limits to feeding areas with different feeds, and even to mark the animals. The animals passing through the gates are also measured, so that employees and management receive up-to-date information about the daily weight gain of the herd. All electronic and control elements of the system send the data to a common software, the evaluation of which is available on a desktop computer, laptop, iPad or mobile phone – the managing director added.
