Agricultural higher education is a good perspective for young people
The score limits for higher education programs starting in September 2025 have been announced. Based on the data, it can be said that agricultural higher education majors are becoming increasingly popular. This year, 3,548 students can begin their higher education studies in the fall semester – announced Minister of Agriculture István Nagy.

István Nagy highlighted that the number of young people who envision their future in agriculture has been growing dynamically since 2020. While 2,535 students were admitted to an agricultural higher education major in 2020, this number has increased to 3,548 this year. In 2025, 12 domestic universities will launch agricultural majors across the country. The largest number of applicants, a total of 1,648, can start their studies at the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences, but the range of training offered by the University of Debrecen, the University of Veterinary Medicine and Széchenyi István University is also very popular. This year, 3,196 students can study in state-funded majors, while 352 students can study in fee-based training from this autumn. Modernization, the use of the most advanced IT tools, the application of robotics and artificial intelligence in everyday farming are part of today’s agriculture – the minister emphasized. Thus, every student who wants to continue their studies in agriculture can find the right major and higher education institution for them. The openness of agricultural higher education, as well as the basic, master’s and undivided training courses available here, students increasingly see secure knowledge, existential opportunities and long-term perspectives. This process is well indicated, for example, by the fact that compared to 2020, the number of students admitted to the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences increased by 57%, while the number of those admitted to the Albert Kázmér Mosonmagyaróvár Faculty of Széchenyi István University increased by a total of 88%. István Nagy added that the goal is to ensure the supply of appropriate professionals for Hungarian agriculture, from secondary vocational training to higher education. Our common interest is to ensure long-term safe food production, which cannot be achieved without well-trained professionals.
